A year ago, Sol de Janeiro – a Brazilian skincare brand of which Happi International Top 30 Company L’Occitane Group holds a majority stake – entered what it called a “new generation of body lotion” with the launch of Body Badalada.

More than just a vitamin-infused lotion with 24-hour hydration, the namesake for “the hottest thing” in Portuguese slang aimed to bring consumers closer to their bodies, each other and self-expression, per brand Co-Founder and former Clinique and Lancôme executive Heela Yang.

Yang – who blends her expertise of Korean skincare with Brazilian ingredients – insists the concept wasn’t merely about selling a product, but creating touchpoints that make people feel seen, celebrated and a part of something bigger.

Powered by Brazilian sugarcane and a “seven-hyaluronic acid blend,” the formula creates a lasting, visible glow. Infused with the brand’s signature Cheirosa 62 scent, Body Badalada is built to integrate into daily rituals – the result being a fast-absorbing, non-sticky formula that “feels as good as it smells,” per officials.

Building on the hype of Body Badalada, Sol de Janeiro recently introduced two new lotions signifying a “strategic expansion” of its body franchise and reinforcing the brand’s long-term investment in the prestige body category through texture innovation, fragrance integration and portfolio development, officials said.

“Lotion users want weightless textures that still deliver powerful hydration,” Joceyln Axelrod, VP, global marketing, Sol de Janeiro, told Happi. “These launches directly address that by offering made‑for‑you textures with varying hydration experiences all wrapped in irresistibly sensorial scents.”

A K-Beauty-Inspired Wardrobe of Hydration Textures

The new innovations – Body Badalada Skin Refresh Water Lotion, Body Badalada Moisture Melting Lotion and Limited-Edition Body Badalada Daily Glow Lotion – are what Axelrod calls a “wardrobe of hydration textures” created for a specific sensorial desire and skin-need profile. Body Badalada Skin Refresh Water Lotion is billed as a lightweight water-gel lotion delivering 24-hour hydration.

Each texture was created for a specific sensorial desire and skin-need profile.

The lightest in texture, the Skin Refresh Water Lotion, is an emulsion built with moisture‑binding humectants and lightweight esters that create an immediate “water‑break” sensation on application for ultra‑light, refreshing hydration, Axelrod said.

“Cheirosa 48 was originally created as a summer limited‑edition scent with the inspiration of ‘summer in a bottle,’” explained Axelrod. “Our perfumer drew inspiration from Rio’s summer fruits and florals, the warmth of the season and the feeling of a tropical getaway, including a guava note to create a delicious fragrance that perfectly complements the sensorial texture of Skin Refresh Water Lotion.”

Body Badalada Moisture Melting Lotion is a milk-to-butter formula that is said to absorb seamlessly, delivering 24-hour soothing hydration with coconut milk, barrier-supporting pro-ceramide and nourishing Brazilian buriti oil scented with Cheirosa 39. Dubbed the portfolio’s richest option, the Moisture Melting Lotion is formulated as a water‑in‑oil emulsion. It starts as a flowable milk‑lotion hybrid and transforms into a butter‑lotion as water evaporates during massage. This oil‑dominant system helps lock in moisture while absorbing quickly, leaving a velvety finish without heaviness or greasiness, says the company.

“We wanted to capture a wide spectrum of hydration sensations and skin types, while keeping the Body Badalada signature of weightless textures,” said Axelrod. “Skin Refresh Water Lotion was inspired by K‑beauty moisturizer concepts, focusing on recreating that instant, refreshing ‘water‑break’ moment that makes skin feel energized and hydrated. The existing Vitamin‑Infused Lotion anchors the lineup between these two ends of the spectrum.”

Moisture Melting Lotion, Axelrod added, draws from facial skincare science, reimagining rich nourishment for the body through a lightweight and fast‑absorbing formula – refined over 30-plus lab iterations – for dry skin.

“The expanded lineup supports our strategy to elevate and grow the prestige lotion category, reinforcing Body Badalada as a franchise that drives choice, enhances sensorial experience and builds long‑term global relevance,” said Axelrod.

Last month, Sol de Janeiro announced a new partnership with Urban Outfitters. The partnership reflects what officials call a shared understanding of how Gen Z engages with beauty today, and where fashion, culture and daily ritual intersect. The collection – which spans more than 40 products across body care, fragrance and haircare – includes the brand’s hero Cheirosa Perfume Mists, which reportedly reached one unit sold every second globally.

The partnership comes on the heels of the retailer’s best-selling year for fragrance in 2025, according to Urban Outfitters.

Jordan Saxemard, chief marketing and digital officer for Sol de Janeiro, was appointed CEO last month.
