Sederma’s New Concept for Skin Moisture

Sederma proposes a new concept for skin moisturization based on the cosmetogenomic process. According to the company, Revidrate is the first moisturizer that regulates the genes enabling the skin to recreate its own natural moisture. The ingredient stimulates two enzymes involved in the filaggrine metabolism to synthesize the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) in formulations.

Moreover, the neosynthesis of intracellular glycerol has been confirmed. It reinforces the corneocyte envelope (synthesis of involucrin, transglutaminase and tight junctions), and the intercellular cement by lipid production (ceramides and cholesterol) ensuring the skin barrier function. It is based on a complex lipid that mimics the effects of sphingosine-1 phosphate (S1P), a natural bioactive phospholipid, known for its function on the epidermis maturation and filaggrinase stimulation.

Revidrate stimulates all strategic molecules in and outside the cell for better moisture and improvement of the barrier. Its strong moisturizing power is especially designed to educate the skin to recreate the epidermis hydrosphere using its own natural process.

Silicones Bring Volume at Dow Corning

With its innovative specialty silicones and formulating expertise, Dow Corning is responding to a growing trend for products that increase hair volume. To further support product development, Dow Corning has added an image-analysis system, which quantifies the effect of select Dow Corning brand silicones on hair volume.

“The trend is back to bigger, fuller hair styles, and launches of hair care products that claim volume or body enhancement have grown 21% per year since 2007,” said Brian Marinik, global strategic marketer, Dow Corning Life Sciences. “At the same time, aging populations are seeking ways to build volume into their hair, so we expect this trend to continue.”

Specialty silicones from Dow Corning are recognized as effective hair conditioning agents that improve wet and dry combing, enhance hair strength, provide heat and color protection, and impart softness and shine. While sensory testing has proven that certain silicones can make hair appear fuller, Dow Corning’s new image analysis system can quantify the volume increase.

Symrise Expands SymMollient Line

Symrise now offers even more effective flexible solutions for the care of dry skin thanks to two new kinds of SymMollient, its successful functional ingredient.

SymMollient L and SymMollient S are two new oil-soluble re-fatting ingredients that significantly improve the skin’s moisture content to make it radiant and smooth, according to the company. These two emollients form a thin hydrophobic film on the skin, protecting it from drying out while at the same time leaving it feeling soft and silky.

Advance Skin Whitening from LS

Skin whiteners remain one of the fastest-growing segments in the global cosmetic and personal care market—especially in Asia. In addition, the growing number of anti-aging products that promise to improve skin radiance, reduce age spots and even skin tone have contributed to the increased demand for skin whitening actives.

In addition to whitening efficacy, consumers want products with superior skin tolerance as an alternative to hydroquinone and kojic acid. Radianskin from Laboratoires Sérobiologiques (LS), Cognis’ active ingredient business, helps manufacturers deliver all these benefits, and marks a major step forward in skin whitening, according to the company.

The active ingredient in Radianskin is a pure single molecule, rather than a less well-defined extract, and provides a significant and visible lightening effect. Based on a scientific approach, Radianskin employs an alternate mode of action when compared to commonly used tyrosinase inhibitors, which differentiates it from most of the existing products on the market. In addition, Radianskin offers a good photoprotective effect, while ensuring high skin tolerance due to its positive safety profile.

Radianskin is compatible with a wide range of other ingredients such as aluminum salts, AHAs and vitamin C.
