Shell MDS Malaysia is proud to announce the launch of a new range in its product applications, Shell GTL SaraCare, at today’s in-cosmetics Global event in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This is yet another achievement demonstrating Shell gas-to-liquid’s (GTL)’s technology and Shell MDS’ capability in pushing the boundaries of innovation.

Shell GTL SaraCare is a premium high purity wax derived from natural gas. The stability and safe-to-use ingredients of Shell GTL SaraCare offer superior performance as rheology modifiers, skin feel modifiers, waterproofing agents, wear resistance agents, structuring agents, and binding agents, making Shell GTL SaraCare a suitable and safe component in formulations for manufacturing personal care products and cosmetics.

“Today’s launch demonstrates our commitment in striving to continuously innovate and enhance our offerings for the benefit of our customers. We at Shell MDS Malaysia are among the pioneers in Gas-to-Liquids technology, and we are the first commercial scale GTL plant for Shell in the world. Since our establishment more than 30 years ago, we have been constantly learning, mastering and pushing, the boundaries of GTL innovation to cater to the needs of our customers,” shared Amir Bakar, Managing Director of Shell MDS Malaysia.

As for its name GTL SaraCare, the word Sara is derived from the name Sarawak, which is a state in Malaysia, giving tribute to the region where the product originates from. Shell GTL SaraCare is one of the company’s many ranges of specialty waxes portfolio.  

“We are also excited to be at in-cosmetics global to introduce Shell GTL SaraCare, as this is our inaugural participation and to be amongst the global personal care community. Hopefully together we can further push the boundaries of innovation in personal care and cosmetics,” said Amir Bakar.

Commissioned in 1993, Shell MDS Malaysia stands as the world’s first unique GTL plant. After two decades of research, Shell revolutionised GTL technology, enabling the conversion of natural gas (NG) into ultra-pure liquid fuels, lubricants, chemicals, performance fluids and solid waxes. The company employs over 450 staff, of which nearly 90 percent are Sarawakians.
