The Sharon Emulsifier Selector is a new top-down approach designed to streamline the emulsifier selection process and elevate skincare formulations to new heights, according to Sharon Personal Care. The Selector allows formulators to quickly and accurately identify the ideal emulsifier for their product formulations. It is tailored for skincare formulators seeking to optimize texture, stability and overall performance in their products. Whether it’s a luxurious cream or a lightweight lotion, the Sharon Emulsifier Selector ensures that the right emulsifier is chosen for consistent, high-quality results, according to the company.
Sharon Personal Care created 15 bases encompassing a comprehensive range of sensory experiences in various formats and textures. Users simply choose between cream, lotion or serum. Or they can choose adjacent characterizations. For example, they can consider both lotions and serums and choose the desired texture: fast absorbing, balanced or rich texture or choose adjacent characterizations, e.g. consider both fast absorbing and balanced. Three to five samples are selected that fit within the design parameters.
Next, samples are evaluated and the top two candidates are tested on panelists.
Finally, the formulation is fine-tuned. The emulsifier is selected based on the large contribution it has on appearance, pickup and rubout, as well as the moderate impact on after-feel. Then the emollients can be mixed and matched to adjust the after-feel characteristics of a formulation.
