As we age, our skin develops visible signs such as wrinkles, sagging, dryness and age blemish. Studies have shown that self-confidence is directly affected by the appearance of the skin. For Asians, spots on the skin are the most unwelcome signs of age, even overcoming concern about wrinkles and sagging. In fact, Asia represents more than half of the global market for lightening products, which reached US$13 billion in 2021 – with China representing 40% of sales, Japan 21% and South Korea 18%, according to Future Market Insights. The growth expectation for this segment is more than US$ 24 billion by 2027. Although they are evident mainly in people over 50 years old, the formation of blemish as a result of the natural aging process begins after the age of 30 and it can be intensified by oxidative stress caused by exposure to UV light, food, psychological stress, and others. The formation of melanin and lipofuscin pigments are among the most studied causes of the appearance of spots on the skin. The lipofuscin is the response to cellular aging arising from the imbalance between the production of “garbage” – oxidized or damaged proteins, lipids and other cellular residues in lysosomes7 – and catabolism (or “recycling”) of this “garbage”. There are many physiological functions dependent on the degradation and recycling of damaged proteins and macromolecules inside the cell. The most important processes for the supply of components necessary for the replacement of cellular energy are autophagy and proteasome activity. Autophagy is the process of natural regeneration of macromolecules of the cell itself, which plays a fundamental role in homeostasis, as it helps to maintain the balance between the synthesis, degradation, and recycling of cellular components. It is known that the proteasome system also is responsible for reducing the formation of this pigment, however, the accumulation of lipofuscin also inhibits the activity of the proteasome. It is possible to mitigate the excess presence of “cellular garbage”, but only with the high levels and efficiency of the two systems: autophagy and proteasome. Bringing light to the mechanism of age blemish formation, Chemyunion developed Iselight. As the result of intense research and ingredient screening, this active acts on the root causes of age blemish formation, and promotes the homeostasis of the cellular detoxification system, autophagy and proteasome activity, capable of eliminating toxins and dysfunctional cellular biological components. Iselight is a concentrated plant extract made from Myrothamnus flabellifolia, a resurrection plant known in traditional African medicine, and Coffea arabica, an important source of antioxidants that comes from the up cycling of industrial waste. Efficiency Lightening age blemish (Visia CR®) Clinical test carried out with 63 volunteers between 45-69 years old with application of cream with Iselight 2% during 56 days of study in the hand and facial regions.
