Product artist and trend visionary Philip Pelusi shares insight on haircare trends.
September 17, 2025

There are a few unlikely alliances for Fall 2025 style and product innovation trends. Hair trends are at opposite ends of the style spectrum, ranging from dramatically coiffed to understated and undone. While ingredient technology and consumer demand for multifunctional, time saving products make for a perfect pairing.
This season, styling becomes the focus with precision crafted updo’s starring opposite low maintenance relaxed waves. Then there’s the battle of the parts. Short boxed bobs with side parts compete with long sleek styled hair with center parts. But the partnership between polar opposite hairstyling and analogous product trends make for some off the charts amazing looking hair.
One of the coolest hair trends to make its comeback in 2025 are pin up girl, big volume hairstyles, first made popular in the 1940’s and 50’s. Historically called Victory Rolls, Back Rolls and Low Pompadours, then models Brigitte Bardot and Betty Paige helped make these styles all the rage in their time. But such an elegant hair trend was sure to make several styling comebacks including for Fall 2025.
For this season these retro styles have a modern twist, especially when it comes to the styling products. These styles require products with the multifunctionality and ease of use today’s consumer and Stylist demands. So we are recommending our P2 by Philip Pelusi Fluid Spray to create these updo styles.
Of course, its best if these updo styles can be created by an expert Stylist. But especially if achieving these looks at home, today’s consumer needs a mistake proof spray. Our P2 Fluid Spray formula is based on a form of “Ethyl Ester of PVM/MA Copolymer” taking advantage of its low solution viscosity to maintain a finer spray and lighter spray pattern to deliver the hold necessitated by this style and its water compatibility allows just the right drying time to adjust for sufficient working time. It has good style memory and a light hold so it can be brushed through for any adjustments that need to be made when rolling pompadours or when building the updo as a whole.
P2 Fluid is the wunderkind of styling sprays. First, it is incredible for any type of setting; curling iron, hot rollers or Velcro. Working in sections around the head, mist P2 Fluid on one section at a time, then wrap the hair around. Then, let set a second or two around a curling iron and a couple of minutes, or longer is desired, for rollers. It works great with or without a hooded drier too. Next unwrap the hair, let cool. USDA Certified Organic Baobab Oil helps keep the product soft and flexible making it easy to work with the hair during and after setting.
Then once you finish creating your look, add a dash of P2 Fluid Spray to lightly hold the whole look in place. Or for a firmer hold reach for our P2 by Philip Pelusi Rivet Medium Hold Spray or P2 Industrial Holding Spray.
This season the antithesis to these perfected coifs is the current Relaxed Styling trend with loose, purposely disheveled waves. Relaxed Styling is very popular due to its ease of styling execution and casual “just woke up” look. Plus matching the overall non-conformist attitude of this look, is its extremely stress-free styling routine and great results on 2nd day or late in the day hair.
Relaxed Styling can be simple for guests to recreate with the right products and process. We recommend starting with clean air dried hair or late in the day or 2nd day hair. This helps give the hair a little texture, advantageous when creating this trend. Next, reach for a dry shampoo or hair refreshing product to pull off this easy styling hack. So we are recommending both our P2 by Philip Pelusi RefresHair Texture Treatment and Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Dri Shampoo for texture and hair refreshing. There is a bit of functionality crossover but also some definite difference between these two products.
P2 RefresHair Texture Treatment, being water-free, volatilizes completely and carries off sebum and up to 50% of surface debris and other residues left behind by styling and conditioning products. It also refreshes hair scent with our exclusive allergen free White Tea and Thyme fragrance, making it a win-win for revitalizing hair. P2 RefreshHair Texture Treatment also contains Sunflower Seed Extract, a natural UV Protectant, Fennel, Asafetida, and Mushroom Extracts to add strength and body where hair may be damaged.
P2 RefresHair is a lightweight, multitask spray that leaves hair shiny, full of body, with none of the dusty residue of powder dry shampoo products. Mist on and brush or scrunch through hair. P2 RefresHair also works great as a setting, holding and heat protecting spray plus you’ll get a little hold from this product.
Our Tela Dri Shampoo is a powder-free alternative to dry shampoos. We created this easy to use spray-on version to help eliminate surface debris, add texture and freshen hair’s scent with Organic Lavender. Plus, powerful antioxidants Organic Reishi Mushroom, Oolong Tea, Chinese Foxglove and White Tea help prevent hair color fadage. Mist on and scrunch or brush through the hair until the proper level of texture is achieved. It has a very light hold, remaining soft and pliable.
One of the easiest ways to create the Relaxed Styling look is with a few big bobby pins or electric roller clips, if those are more readily available. Then working in sections around the head, lightly mist 1 – 2 times with either product, then lightly twist the section and wrap it around into its own loose bun. Then, pin the end into place or secure with a big electric roller clip.
Keep in mind the smaller the section the tighter the waves. Also the thicker the hair or the more layers you have, the more sections you will need to create. Also if you want a little height and volume, create those sections to sit right down the center top of your head, putting one in the crown and 1 or 2 more in on the part line and front of your hair.
Tela Dri Shampoo and P2 RefresHair both dry in just a few minutes, so put on your makeup or eat breakfast to multitask while these sections dry. Remove the clips and you are off to a great day or evening with loose relaxed waves.
The ongoing Box Bob trend continues but with a new twist. Box bobs are now trending with either side or off center parts. We’ve always been advocates for letting the growth pattern of the front hairline and face shape determine the best place to part the hair, so this opens up the possibilities for those not able to wear or achieve a center part.
The structured look of a Box Bob requires a precise blunt bottom line and glossy, healthy looking hair and absolutely zero frizz. So we’ve introduced the use of some highly specialized USDA Certified Organic hydrating oils to add moisture and sheen to the hair. Our Tela Beauty Organics Frizz Buster Dry Texture Anti-Frizz Styling Spray contains our proprietary blend of nutrient rich oils Organic Quinoa, Baobab, Sunflower, and Lavender that lock in moisture for exceptional anti-frizz control, shine and manageability.
Tela Frizz Buster is perfect for finishing Box Bob styles and helps them stay frizz free throughout the day. Mist on dry hair to help eliminate frizz on the part-line and front hairline. Plus Tela Frizz Buster does have a smidgen of hold so it can be used at the root for light lift and dry scrunched into hair to create some movement if desired.
Competing with this season’s bobs is a reincarnation of “Cher hair” from the 70’s but with an even crisper, shinier finish. Hair is first blown out smooth then flat ironed pin straight starting close to the head to produce a zero volume look. So this look is worn close to the head with heat protection required during both of these styling phases.
So we are recommending our recently reformulated multi-task wonder P2 by Philip Pelusi BrilliantHair Smart Styling Treatment. It should be first applied to clean conditioned damp hair prior to blow-drying and again throughout blowout to tame texture. Then, lightly mist on again before and during for flat ironing then if needed, as a final glossy mist to finish. Dial this usage up or down depending the amount of hair and its texture. P2 BrilliantHair can be universally used but apply more sparingly on baby fine, sparse hair.
Reformulated to be Silicone Free and Vegan, P2 by Philip Pelusi BrilliantHair contains the latest innovations in naturally derived chemistry to replace those Silicones and other “Franken Chemicals”. When we originally created P2 BrilliantHair, it was formulated in an era when “Silicones” were not yet moving into the regulatory and marketing-adverse spotlight. Whereas this revamped P2 BrilliantHair is a new Silicone-free “clean and compliant” product that conforms to current regulatory issues.
P2 BrilliantHair delivers the same incredible product functionality everyone has come to know and love in our original formula. And because of this formula update, we are able to achieve over-the-top heat styling, sun and anti-color fade protection. Zero hold, this product allows the hair to swing and stay moveable perfect for this trend.
P2 BrilliantHair has been updated with Organic Baobab Seed and Jojoba Oils to hydrate, creates lustrous shine and provide heat protection and frizz reduction. We choose the finest cold-pressed oils, meaning they retain nutritional value while still feeling light on the hair.
We also added the latest biotech-derived ingredient, Hemisqualane as a key source of antioxidants beneficial to hair color preservation plus moisture and increased shine. Historically based on animal sources, this Silicone replacement is strictly vegan in that it is derived from biotech plant sources.
Additionally, our Hydro Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex also joins the silicone-free P2 BrilliantHair ingredient listing for top notch color protection. This universal-texture complex of plant derived ceramides mimics the ceramides (known as lipids) found between cuticle layers. It helps seal each cuticle layer to each other and to the cortex helping seal in color molecules below. This proprietary mixture strengthens, hydrates, helps protect color and creates shine
Plus, Tomato Fruit Extract helps fortify hair with vitamins and minerals including Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc, Copper, Selenium, Vitamin B6, B12 and Folate (a form of Vitamin B9). Tomato Fruit Extract is also rich in antioxidants Vitamins A, C and E that help protect hair strength and chemically and color treated hair.
Reflecting today’s consumer multi-task ingredient wishes, Philip Pelusi formulas continue to be Sulfate Free, Paraben Free, Formaldehyde Free, Silicone Free, Mineral Oil Free, Retinyl Palmitate Free, Coal Tar Free, Oxybenzone Free, Hydroquinone Free, Triclosan Free, Triclocarban Free, PEG-Free, Dioxane-Free, Synthetic Dyes Free, GMO Free, Silicone Free, Cruelty Free and never tested on animals.
