The singer sported cascading Cherry Vinyl mermaid curls during her surprise guest appearance at the big game staged at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Super Bowl LIX went down as having one of the most viral-worthy moments in the game’s 59-year history. One of them was R&B star SZA’s sizzling surprise performance with fellow Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar.
The singer sported cascading Cherry Vinyl mermaid curls.
“We wanted to stay true to her signature big hair look while elevating it with extra length and some color to spice things up,” said her hairstylist, Devante Turnbull.
Happi breaks down the hair care products used to achieve the “Saturn” singer’s out-of-this-world hair.
Turnbull used Redken Shades EQ Color Gloss to achieve SZA’s Cherry Vinyl hair, complementing the singer’s head-to-toe red ensemble for her red-hot performance with headliner Kendrick Lamar.
In a mixing bowl, Turnbull churned out the color by combining Redken Flash Lift 8 Hair Lightener with Pro-Oxide 20 Volume Developer until yielding a smooth consistency. Then, he applied the bleach evenly onto the hair, allowing that to process for 30 minutes to achieve a level 6 dark blonde base.
Then, he combined Redken Color Fusion 6RR + 20 Volume Pro-Oxide Developer in a 1:1 ratio. Next, he applied the mixture evenly throughout the hair, ensuring full saturation. After letting it process for 35 minutes, he rinsed and toned the roots with Redken Shades EQ 05RV.
Before her color, Turnball used K18 Repair Service to keep the star’s hair healthy and vibrant.
The in-salon service works to repair hair from the inside out in two ways. First, to strengthen and protect the hair, Devante sprayed the K18 Professional Molecular Repair Mist evenly throughout her hair to strengthen and prepare it for chemical processing. He let it sit for at least four minutes before proceeding without rinsing it out.
He rinsed and shampoo the hair with K18 Peptide Prep Detox shampoo and allowed the hair to air-dry.
He then applied the hair coloring mixture evenly throughout the hair, ensuring full saturation. After letting it process for 35 minutes, he rinsed and treated her hair by applying the K18 Molecular Repair Mask to restore hydration and strength and let that sit for four minutes.
Turnball blow-dried SZA’s hair using the ghd Helios Hair Dryer and Professional Diffuser attachment to maintain natural movement and definition on the hair.
To create a unique texture, he alternated between using two curlers – ghd’s Curve Creative Curl Wand and Thin Wand to curl the hair in different directions and add more dimension.
To maximize volume, he used his fingers to separate and blend the curls. Then he brushed through the hair using the ghd Paddle Brush and applied K18 Molecular Repair Hair Oil to add shine and control frizz.
