The Carolina Chapter of the SCC will host a Mardi Gras-themed technical meeting on Feb. 12.

The presentation is “A Character Study: The Role of Makeup in the Psychology of Beauty and Perception,” by Sarah Vickery, Ph.D., principal scientist for R&D in global color cosmetics at Procter & Gamble Beauty.

The presentation will provide an overview of Vickery’s work as co-author with researchers from Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital to evaluate makeup’s impact on perceived trustworthiness, likability and competence entitled, “Cosmetics as a Feature of the Extended Human Phenotype: Modulation of the Perception of Biologically Important Facial Signs.”

At the meeting, Mardi Gras themed games will be played throughout the evening and attendees will receive beads at the door. Extra beads will be rewarded if  an attendee brings a customer or a non-SCC member or wears Mardi Gras colors (purple, green and gold). The two who accumulate the most strands of beads will win a prize, according to the Chapter.
