SV Labs, a contract and development manufacturing organization (CDMO) for beauty and personal care products, added direct compression tablet capabilities. The technology is available at the company’s Beach facility in Watsonville, CA. This new capability delivers a cost-effective, scalable solution for North American brands developing solid-format products across beauty, personal care and home care categories, according to company executives.

SV Labs’ direct compression line enables the creation of concentrated tablets that reduce water use, support refillable systems and minimize the environmental impact and cost of shipping. Most direct compression technology for beauty, personal care and home care products has been concentrated in Asia historically. By localizing this capability in the US, SV Labs offers a domestic alternative, delivering commercial-scale efficiency, high-quality production, streamlined supply chains and speed to market.

Sustainable Formats and Local Supply Chains

“The driving force behind this investment was clear: our customers,” said SV Labs CEO Graham Orriss. “They’re asking for more sustainable formats, local supply chains and smarter ways to innovate. By bringing direct compression technology to the US, we not only meet those needs, but also make it easier to collaborate with our partners on formulation and product development.”

Direct compression adds to the growing toolbox of anhydrous technologies that SV Labs offers its customers, joining wet granulation, hot pours, powders, effervescents and more. With this addition, SV Labs strengthens its position as a leader in the anhydrous space. It offers the widest variety of anhydrous solutions to beauty, personal care and home care brands. With nearly 50 years of expertise, SV Labs provides flexibility and depth in delivering sustainable, high-performance product formats.

“We’re proud to support SV Labs in expanding its capabilities with direct compression,” said Scott Potter, partner at San Francisco Equity Partners (SFEP). “This investment reinforces SV Labs’ leadership in the anhydrous space and reflects our shared belief in the long-term potential of sustainable beauty, personal care and home care product formats.”

Four Manufacturing Sites in the US and Canada

SV Labs operates four manufacturing sites across the US and Canada, each specializing in unique technologies. This North American footprint provides customers with built-in business continuity, operational resilience, and the agility needed to scale and adapt in a dynamic market.

The company is expanding hot pour capacity at its Prescott, Wisconsin, facility later this year, further solidifying its leadership in the anhydrous category and supporting the continued growth of deodorants, antiperspirants and beauty stick formats.

SV Labs will showcase its expanded capabilities at Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas, booth 37077, from July 15–17, 2025. Attendees are invited to explore new product formats and connect with SV’s product development and manufacturing teams.
