SPF-Infused Lip Gloss, Setting Spray Dominate Top-Growing Beauty Trends in the US

As consumers are becoming more conscious about the sun’s harmful rays, the following mantra is top-of-mind: glow, set, protect. SPF-infused makeup as hit new heights, per the analysts at Spate.

Specifically, SPF lip gloss and SPF setting spray are the moment’s top-growing beauty trends in the US per the New York City-based trend tracker’s Popularity Index.

SPF Setting Spray

SPF setting spray has grown by +185.5% compared to last year, and across platforms, analysts say. On Search, the trend is up +75.3%, while on TikTok, it is up by over 1,000%. The trend’s Popularity Share is well distributed across platforms, with 54.8% going to Google, where it is averaging 4.2K monthly searches. On TikTok, the trend receives 268.1K average weekly views. Because not everyone remembers to reapply their SPF, makeup can be trickier; that’s where SPF setting sprays can come in handy. They’re easy to use and multitask by locking in looks while protecting skin – all while helping boost the effectiveness of the SPF already applied. While many top search queries are branded, the most popular ones — SPF setting spray and setting spray with SPF — are not, indicating that consumers aren’t loyal to any one brand and are actively searching for “the best” option, analysts say.

That said, some brands are being searched alongside this trend, including Supergoop and Coola. On TikTok, the top branded hashtag is #kopari (108.7K average weekly views), with the brand’s Sunglaze Sheer Setting Mist Sunscreen SPF 50 appearing in top-viewed videos. The hashtag #vacationmode is also trending with 38.0K average weekly views, showing that consumers associate this product format with warmer months and travel. With a 94.1% TikTok Shop views share, the platform isn’t just a place to market the importance of SPF setting sprays — it’s also a major channel for direct sales.

Lip skin is one of the thinnest areas of the body, which is why it needs extra protection from the sun. Analysts say interest in this category has grown by 155.9% compared to last year, and across platforms. Google holds most of this trend with 63.7% Popularity Share, averaging 1.7K monthly searches. On TikTok, the trend sees 127.5K average weekly views.

In the past, many consumers were ignorant to their lips’ need for sun protection. However, as social media platforms like TikTok continue to educate and inform, demand for previously niche products is growing. On Search, the top related brand is ELF Cosmetics. On TikTok, the most popular branded hashtags are #prequelskin (53.5K average weekly views) and #supergoop (23.2K average weekly views), one specialized in protective skincare, the other in SPF products. The trend carries a strong consumer sentiment score of 8.1 out of 10, mainly driven by positive reactions, indicating strong interest in this format. Related benefit hashtags like #hydratedlips (35.9K average weekly views) reflect a growing desire for products that offer both protection and hydration.
