SCC Announces Award Winners

Presentations during the Society’s 79th Annual Scientific Meeting, Dec. 16-17, 2025, at the Sheraton NY Times Square.

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) announced the winners of the 2024 awards being presented during the Society’s 79th Annual Scientific Meeting, December 16-17, 2025, at the Sheraton NY Times Square in New York, NY. To register, click here.

O’Grady, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of SCC. “These winners join a prestigious list of accomplished professionals who have earned peer recognition for their outstanding work.”

And the Winners Are…


YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the Best Paper by a young scientist, under the age of 40, presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Jacob Sessions (Überlube) for the SCC78 presentation, Personal Lubricants are Medical Devices? – An Intimate Look at the Regulatory and Safety Challenges.


HANS A. SCHAEFFER AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the Most Innovative paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Dr. Hang Ma (University of Rhode Island) for the SCC78 presentation entitled, A Platform Integrating Biological Assays, Proteomic Analyses, Network Pharmacology, Machine Learning, and Target Binding Techniques for the Discovery of Skin Protective Natural Products.


SHAW MUDGE AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the Best Paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Jaide Jensen (Arcaea) for the SCC78 presentation entitled, Precision Prebiotics – Skin Microbiome Modulation for Cosmetic Benefits.


SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS AWARD, sponsored by Hallstar: Recognizing the Best Paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting that made the greatest scientific contribution to knowledge in the field of protecting against or ameliorating damage to human skin caused by exposure to UV radiation, this award will be presented to Samuel Gourion-Arsiquaud, PhD (TRI Princeton) for the SCC78 presentation entitled, Increased Temperature Related to Climate Change Impacts the Penetration of Sunscreen into Our Skin.


ALAN B. & JEANETTE BLACK AWARD, sponsored by Presperse: Recognizing the best paper on sustainable formulation technology presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science, this award will be presented to Tony Abboud (Core Biogenesis), for the SCC78 presentation entitled, Advancing Sustainable Bioactive Production: Leveraging Plant-Based Systems as Biofactories for the Personal Care Industry.


JOSEPH P. CIAUDELLI AWARD, sponsored by Croda: Recognizing the best article appearing in the Journal of Cosmetic Science on the subject of hair care technology, this award will be presented to authors Chikara Yamauchi (Arimino), Yasunori Okuma (Arimino), Takayuki Togashi (Arimino), and Jiro Tanaka (Arimino) for the article entitled, The Effects of Permanent Waving Treatment on Blleached Hair and the Factors of Damage, published in JCS 2024 | Volume 75 No. 2.

DES GODDARD AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the most innovative paper on the topic of polymer science related to cosmetics or personal care presented at the preceding Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science, this award will be presented to Dr. Deby Fapyane (Cellugy) for the SCC78 presentation entitled, Redispersable Biofabricated Cellulose Powder in Sun Care: High Performing SPF Booster at Low Dosage.
