Rice-Derived Liquid Cuticle from Seiwa Kasei

Vegetamide 18MEA-R is made from upcycled rice and treats damaged hair by improving hydrophobicity.

Seiwa Kasei has a new ingredient derived from upcycled rice to treat damaged hair, thereby improving its hydrophobicity.

Hair treated with 0.6% Vegetamide 18MEA-R, left, versus without.

According to the chemists at the Japanese personal care company, healthy hair has a barrier structure called an “F-layer,” which repels water.

This layer is made from 18-Methyleicosanoic acid and keratin, which contributes to hydrophobicity of hair’s surface.

In focusing on hair’s surface structure, the company developed an original ingredient Vegetamide 18MEA-R (INCI name: Cetearamidoethyl diethonium hydrolyzed rice protein (and) glycerin (and) water). It has a similar structure to the F-layer, which is composed of alkyl group and rice peptide made from upcycled rice.

Repairing Effect

Silicone treated hair shows an unnatural condition due to silicone accumulation. Vegetamide treated hair keeps it healthy after repeated use.

In treating damaged hair with 0.6% Vegetamide 18MEA-R, hair didn’t repel water like healthy hair, demonstrating that Vegetamide treated damaged hair, improving hydrophobicity.

Vegetamide 18MEA-R is suitable for daily care application.
