The Natural Products Association (NPA) issued a statement of support for President Donald J. Trump’s latest trade breakthrough with China.

The agreement represents a significant step toward fairer global trade, a more level playing field for American manufacturers and greater market access for US-made dietary supplements and natural products. During the NPA’s annual Fly-in Day held last week, members of the NPA board of directors met directly with White House officials, and attendees met with over 100 congressional offices about the importance of strengthening the dietary supplement supply chain.

“President Trump’s agreement with China is a game-changer for American businesses, including those in the natural products industry,” said Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Natural Products Association. “For too long, American producers and exporters have faced steep barriers and retaliatory tariffs that made it harder for our members to compete globally and deliver high-quality products to consumers worldwide. This new deal brings hope, opportunity, and clarity for our sector.”

Agreement Terms

Under the terms of the agreement, China will reduce and suspend a range of retaliatory tariffs imposed earlier this year. At the same time, the US retains a fair baseline tariff structure that encourages domestic manufacturing without unduly burdening importers. Critically, the joint commitment to removing non-tariff barriers and enhancing market access could pave the way for future export growth of US-made vitamins, supplements and wellness products.

“Lowering tariffs by 115% on both sides and pausing further escalation is a win for U.S. manufacturers and American consumers,” Fabricant continued. “It reinforces the administration’s commitment to supply chain resilience and promotes domestic investment, principles the NPA has long championed.”

Key points of the agreement include:

The removal or suspension of Chinese retaliatory tariffs affecting US goods, including natural products;

A reciprocal 90-day pause on both nations’ recent 34% tariff increases, replaced with a more stable 10% tariff baseline;

A framework for future bilateral economic discussions led by top-level trade and treasury officials; and

Joint enforcement and oversight mechanisms to ensure compliance and transparency.

“As the US works to rebalance its trade relationship with China, our industry stands ready to grow, innovate and meet global demand,” said Fabricant. “We commend President Trump and his administration for prioritizing American workers, health, and enterprise. This deal moves us closer to a stronger, more resilient and fair global trade environment.”
