Midwest Society of Cosmetic Chemists To Host Technical Symposium

The Midwest Society of Cosmetic Chemists is hosting its biannual Technical Symposium this fall.

The daylong event, slated for Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 8 am to 3:30 pm at North Central College in Naperville, IL, is focused on furthering its mission of education to advance the field of cosmetic science.

This year’s theme is Cosmetic Carnival.

Speaker Lineup

Keynote Speaker Dr. Michelle Gaines with Spelman College will lecture on “Curls, Kinks, & Waves on Parade: A Carnival of Hair Textures;”
Paul Marotta with FP Labs will talk on “The Science, Packaging, and Process Innovation Behind Modern Mascara: From History to Formula Development;”
Philip Ludwig with BASF will discuss the 12 Theories of Aging;
Morgan Drohan with Active Concepts will discuss the “Carousel of Color: The Science of Revitalizing Blonde & Brunette Tresses with Botanical Brilliance;” and
Hejab Malik with Potion AI will give the talk, “How AI is Impacting Product Development.”

Demonstration Sessions

Demonstration sessions will be given by the following:

Stephanie Kipling with Alchemy Ingredients on Sensory, Magic, and Color;
Jim Griffin with SCT on Vibrant Colored and Carnival Scented Shampoo Bars;
Melissa Plescia with FenChem Beauty on Investigating Sunscreen Efficacy and Spreadability with Blacklight Exploration on SPF Formulas;
Kiara Brumfield with RNA Corporation on Evaluating Performance Parameters of Hair Products from a Cosmetologist and Chemist Perspective; and
Cheryl Seidell Hili with DeWolf Chem/Azelis on Infusing Innovation within Formulation.
