Spartan Chemical, Midlab Achieve First Green Seal Certifications for Floor Care Products Formulated without PFAS

Midlab’s Maxim Zinc-Free High Traffic Floor Finish and Spartan Chemical’s FloorFront floor finish are leaders in meeting Green Seal’s rigorous PFAS criteria.

Global non-profit Green Seal has announced the first floorcare products to be certified to be formulated without any intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS): Spartan Chemical’s FloorFront floor finish and Midlab’s Maxim Zinc-Free High Traffic Floor Finish.

Midlab and Spartan are demonstrating extraordinary leadership by formulating their products without ‘forever chemicals’ while maintaining high performance,” said Doug Gatlin, CEO of Green Seal. “By achieving certification to Green Seal’s PFAS criteria, these companies are proving that safer chemistry is possible today — and they’re leading the industry toward a healthier, more sustainable future.”

Earlier this year, Green Seal enacted an across-the-board prohibition on any PFAS in floor care products.

Floor Care Products

PFAS are used in floor care products for properties such as gloss, leveling, stain resistance and wettability.

With Green Seal certification and products formulated without intentionally added PFAS, Midlab and Spartan are leading the transition toward safer chemistry and meeting growing customer demand for healthier, high-performing, and environmentally responsible solutions, said Green Seal.

All previously certified floor care products must comply with Green Seal’s updated PFAS criteria by March 11, 2027.
