Shirley Raines, CEO of nonprofit organization Beauty 2 The Streetz has died. The announcement was made on her social media pages.

Raines, 58, brought hair, makeup and hygiene services, as well as hot meals and showers, to unhoused people. Each week her organization helped hundreds of homeless across Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas.

In 2021, Raines was named CNN’s Hero of the Year. Last year, she was a recipient of the NAACP Image Award and named to the Time100 Creators list.

Raines chronicled her efforts and advocacy on social media. Known as “Miss Shirley,” she had more than 5 million followers on TikTok at the time of her death.

Raines began helping the homeless in 2017. Beauty 2 the Streetz was formally registered as a nonprofit in 2019.

The organization had support from the beauty industry. Thrive Causemetics, for example, said in 2024 that it had contributed more than $1.6 million in funds and products to the organization.

A statement on the Beauty 2 the Streetz Instagram page read: “We are working closely with Ms. Shirley’s family to ensure her legacy is honored as we move forward and that the work she was so deeply proud of continues. We ask that you please understand this is an extremely difficult time for all involved, and we kindly as for positivity in honor of Ms. Shirley.”
