Henkel—maker of Persil, All and Snuggle fabric care brands—is the recipient of The American Cleaning Institute’s Sustainability Spotlight Award. The honor was announced on Feb. 2 during ACI’s Annual Convention in Orlando.

“Henkel’s holistic integration of sustainability, from product formulation to packaging design and logistics, demonstrates transformative industry leadership and empowers consumers to have a positive impact,” said Emily Trentacope, PhD, ACI’s VP of sustainability.

ACI noted how Henkel “comprehensively reimagined” select liquid laundry product lines for All free clear, Persil and Snuggle brands, concentrating formulas to provide more cleaning power per drop and innovating packaging to maximize efficiency.

Sustainability Success

In addition to concentrating formulas, Henkel reduced bottle complexity and size, simplifying the structure to smaller bottles made of more recycled plastic. This compaction increases shipping efficiency, resulting in less trucks on the road and saving a projected 4,000+ metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. All bottles are 100% designed for recycling, supporting a circular economy, and the concentrated formula results in an estimated water conservation in Henkel manufacturing facilities equivalent to 450,000 standard loads of laundry, or nine million gallons of water annually.

Supplier Partnerships

Those successes don’t happen in a vacuum, of course. It takes collaboration with key industry suppliers to achieve sustainability and performance goals.

To that end, Henkel used ACI’s convention as the backdrop to honor its valuable partners in home care and personal care, including ingredients used in its hair care brands like Got2b, DevaCurl and Blondme, among others.

Representatives from more than 30 major Henkel suppliers attended the supplier awards ceremony held at the ACI convention headquarter hotel, the Orlando World Center Marriott. The evening included a special runway show that put sustainable fashion and Henkel’s laundry and hair care technologies in the spotlight.

Innovation Contributor Awards

Inolex and BASF received “Best Innovation Contributor Award” from Henkel.

Inolex won in for its unique conditioning system that creates a luxurious feel and provides deep hair moisturization.

BASF was honored for its new surfactant system for automatic dishwashers, delivering superior rinsing, enhanced shine, and faster drying.

Other suppliers honored for their ingredients included ADM and Nouryon. Additionally, Kapachim won Henkel’s Supply Resilience Award for ensuring uninterrupted supply at Henkel plants through proactive management and operational excellence.
