President and CEO Steve Caldeira to depart Association in July 2026.
April 24, 2026
By: Christine Esposito
Editor-in-Chief
The Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA) announced that President and CEO Steve Caldeira is stepping down from his role in July, concluding nearly a decade of “exceptional leadership and service to the organization and the household and commercial products industry.”
Caldeira informed the HCPA board of directors about his decision to resign and complete a transition through July 2026.
“Steve’s tenure has been truly extraordinary,” said Lisa Pankiewicz, chair of the board of directors and VP strategic regulatory and external affairs, The Clorox Company. “He has elevated the voice, visibility, and impact of HCPA in ways that will be felt for years to come. His strategic vision, tireless advocacy, and unwavering commitment to members have positioned the industry for long-term success.”
“Serving HCPA and the household and commercial products industry has been the privilege of a lifetime,” said Caldeira. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together—from advancing smart, science-based policies to strengthening the industry’s role in delivering innovative, safe, and sustainable products to consumers. I am especially grateful for the partnership of our members, the dedication of our staff, and the collaboration of stakeholders across the country.”
Caldeira joined the organization in 2017, and has led a period of significant growth, influence and transformation. Most notably, he spearheaded the successful rebrand of the Association from the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) to HCPA, a move that modernized its identity and better aligned the organization with the evolving scope and impact of the industry it represents.
Widely respected as one of Washington’s most effective and trusted advocates, Caldeira has been repeatedly recognized by The Hill as a Top Lobbyist, an honor that reflects both his policy expertise and his reputation for principled, bipartisan leadership.
Under his guidance, HCPA achieved major policy milestones at both the federal and state levels. Caldeira played a pivotal role in securing reauthorization of the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) in 2019 and 2022, advancing the implementation of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, and negotiating the California Cleaning Product Right to Know Act in 201—landmark achievements that have helped shape the regulatory landscape for the industry.
He has also championed and helped strengthen the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice program, reinforcing its role as a gold standard for safer, more sustainable products.
As state-level activity accelerated across the country, Caldeira ensured that HCPA was not only prepared, but leading—strengthening relationships with state policymakers, growing the Government Relations & Public Policy team, and building a cohesive, forward-looking advocacy strategy that elevated the industry’s voice nationwide.
Beyond policy, Caldeira has been a deeply engaged and influential leader within the D.C. and broader community, serving on numerous boards and advisory groups, including the MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, National Association of Manufacturer’s (NAM), US Chamber of Commerce’s Trade Association Committee of 100, the Bryce Harlow Foundation, So Others Might Eat (SOME), the Panetta Public Policy Institute at California State University-Monterey Bay. He was also former chairman of the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE) and Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter and co-Chaired the Spirit of Mount Vernon.
Caldeira was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration and Foodservice Management from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, where he served as Chair of the Emeril Lagasse Golf Classic for 15 years from 2003-2017. He was chair of The Fund for his alma mater, Providence College, from 2023-2025 and continues to serve on their National Board of Advisors.
Caldeira’s contributions have earned him widespread recognition and numerous industry honors, including CEO Update’s Trade Association CEO of the Year Award in 2022.
