Beauty enthusiasts go to great lengths in search of products to ensure their hair game is on-point.

From thickening shampoos to aid with hair loss and volume, to shine boosting, color protecting and curl perfecting, consumers demand greatness. Tech- and ingredient-savvy consumers will stop at nothing in their search for the next best product… however outrageous!

According to Spate’s Popularity Index, the moment’s fastest-growing hair care products are onion shampoo and low porosity hair treatments.

Onion Shampoo, a Buzzy Plant-Based Ingredient

Hair care brands specializing in onion shampoo are shedding tears of joys for this trend.

Onion shampoo has grown by over 1,000% compared to last year, with TikTok leading the charge, analysts say. The platform owns 76.9% of the trend’s Popularity Share, generating an average of 1.8 million weekly views. On Google, it sees about 4.4K monthly searches.

Users claim onion shampoo nourishes the scalp, adds volume and shine, improves texture and even helps protect hair from damage, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. The buzzy, plant-based ingredient thrives on word-of-mouth and testimonial content and is gaining eyes on TikTok.

Natural Sant is the top brand associated with the trend on TikTok, earning an average of 514K weekly views. Other commonly linked ingredients include biotin and collagen – both known for their hair health-supporting benefits like improving hair thickness, shine and growth rates. With 445.6K mentions, #hairgrowth is the most used hashtag, which suggests users are prioritizing proven results over old-school remedies.

Low Porosity Hair Treatments

Low porosity hair treatments are specially formulated for hair that struggles to absorb moisture. These lightweight products hydrate effectively without sitting on the surface or weighing the hair down. According to analysts, interest in these treatments has grown by 338.7% compared to last year across platforms. On Google Search, the trend has jumped by 455.9%, while on TikTok, it’s up by 333%. TikTok owns this trend, accounting for 94.1% of the trend’s Popularity Share, with 1.7 million average weekly views and 1.6K average monthly searches on Google. The top search queries are unbranded, which signals a major opportunity for brands to step in with tailored education and products.

On TikTok, #Ouai (8.4K average weekly views) and #CamilleRose (7.9K average weekly views) are leading the branded conversation, as both are known for creating formulas that cater to low porosity hair. Consumers are also using TikTok to share their full hair care routines, especially within communities like #NaturalHairTikTok (128.6K avg. weekly views) and #Type4Hair (73.9K). It’s another example of how inclusivity and ingredient transparency continue to shape the natural and textured hair category.
