DSM-Firmenich Hits the Road with The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Mobile Skin Cancer Screening RV

Fifth year in a row the maker of Parsol Shield is part of the program.

For the fifth year in a row, dsm-firmenich is sponsoring Destination Healthy Skin, the Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile skin cancer education and screening program. The Destination Healthy Skin RV, which embarked on its journey earlier this month, will hit 40 cities through November.

During this year’s road trip, dsm-firmenich is likely to have a major reason to celebrate; the company is anticipating FDA’s approval of Parsol Shield in June, as reported by Happi.

“At dsm-firmenich Beauty & Care, we are committed to helping people stay Safer Under The Sun by advancing science-led innovation and protecting public health. Our Parsol UV solutions help defend against harmful rays, reduce skin cancer risk, and prevent photoaging. This year marks a pivotal milestone as we anticipate the FDA approval of Parsol Shield in June—potentially the first new UV filter introduced in the US in over 25 years,” said Vicki Barboiu, senior director, dsm-firmenich Beauty and Care, NA. “By supporting Destination Healthy Skin and partnering with the Skin Cancer Foundation and leading brands, we work to raise awareness and promote sun safety.”

In addition to the screenings, participants also receive prevention and early detection literature. This year, “Parsol Shield” bags filled with sunscreen samples will be available at every stop.

The Destination Healthy Skin RV spends between one to three days in each community it visits, offering participants critical access to a health screening that may otherwise not happen, according to the Foundation.

“About 65 percent of the people who receive a screening through the program have never been screened for skin cancer before,” says Becky Kamowitz, executive director of the Foundation. “It’s likely that many of the suspected skin cancers identified onboard our RV would remain undetected if it weren’t for this program and our volunteer medical providers. We’re grateful for partners like dsm-firmenich, whose support helps us bring this public service to communities around the country. We know from participant feedback that Destination Healthy Skin has saved and improved lives.”
