Utilizing GLDA chemistry, the product's strong chelating power enhances cleaning efficiency and delivers superior results in diverse applications.

BASF Care Chemicals has launched Trilon G chelating agent, which utilizes glutamic acid diacetate (GLDA) chemistry.
The latest addition to BASF’s product portfolio complements the existing range of chelating agents, including methylglycinediacetic acid (MGDA) and tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) and helps to fulfill the growing demand for more sustainable solutions, officials said.
Designed for the Home Care and Industrial & Institutional (I&I) cleaning industries, Trilon G chelating agent aids in product performance by significantly improving surfactant efficiency through water softening. Its strong chelating power ensures it effectively binds to metal ions, enhancing cleaning efficiency and enabling superior results in diverse applications like manual dishwashing and laundry. The product’s versatility further allows it to deliver tailored solutions for a wide range of industry needs.
Further reinforcing BASF’s commitment to sustainability, Trilon G is partially biobased, with about 56% renewable carbon atoms. Also, the active ingredient in Trilon G chelating agent, GLDA, is classified as readily biodegradable, with greater than 60% degraded within 28 days according to the internationally recognized OECD 301D test. This aligns with the global demand for more sustainable solutions. This also allows formulators to tailor their products to meet consumer needs while balancing cost, performance and sustainability.
“The launch of Trilon G represents a significant step forward in delivering on our commitment to both innovation and sustainability,” said Amita Gupta, vice president, business management, Home Care and I&I Cleaning Americas. “This ingredient not only enhances cleaning performance but also meets the growing demand for environmentally responsible solutions in the Home Care and I&I industries. We are proud to add this exceptional chelating agent to the BASF portfolio.”
