ACI’s #StoreNotDecor Initiative Bolsters Cleaning Product Storing Safety

National Poison Prevention Week runs March 16-22.

Americans are conflicted when it comes to storing their cleaning products, says the American Cleaning Institute.

New research finds 52% of Americans prioritize safety when it comes to storing cleaning products. However, in the same survey, more than 50% of Americans say they plan to, would consider, or already sore laundry products in decorative jars or clear containers.

The data is based on a national survey conducted for ACI by Wakefield Research.

The portrayal of unsafe storage of liquid laundry packets (LLPs) on popular social media platforms is a trend that has been increasing in recent years, as previous research released by ACI indicates.

“The American Cleaning Institute’s #StoreNotDecor initiative was created to combat the rise of unsafe home organization trends and aims at helping prevent accidents in the home and raise awareness of prioritizing safety over style,” said Brian Sansoni, ACI senior vice president of communications and outreach.

National Poison Prevention Week (March 16-22) offers a timely reminder to scour homes to help prevent accidental exposures to everyday products. Unwittingly decanting cleaning products and storing them as decoration within the home puts children, as well as adults with cognitive impairments, at an increased risk for accidental poisoning exposure.
