A new video released by the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) showcases the #StoreNotDecor initiative and helps consumers avoid unsafe storage trends that are popular and prevalent on social media platforms.

A consumer survey recently released by ACI conducted by Wakefield Research found that social media impacts 52% of American’s perception of cleaning products and 35% of Americans admitted they have kept liquid laundry packets in a place where a child could see or reach them.

A search on popular social media platforms, like Pinterest, shows hundreds of trending images encouraging followers to display laundry packets and detergents as décor in glass or plastic jars – a home organization decision that could put curious kids at risk for potential poison exposures. ACI’s new video aims to combat these trends and highlight safe storage of liquid laundry packets.

“The social media trend of displaying detergent as décor is concerning. This opens the door for potential accidental exposures that are easily prevented if common sense proper storage practices are followed,” said Brian Sansoni, ACI senior vice president, communications and outreach. “Our #StoreNotDecor video is an example of the continued commitment to educating consumers on product safety advancements and providing resources to parents and caregivers on the importance of establishing safe laundry routines.”
