At the SCC Technology Showcase, Lipotec debuted two posters that focus on prevention through two of its key anti-aging active ingredients. Thermostressine induces cell ability to resist further stressful aggressions, whereas dGlyage protects DNA structure through innovatively targeting glycation. Prematurely aged and fatigued skin may result from a daily routine. Skin is continually challenged by a variety of stressful situations such as environmental (extreme weather, heavy metals, UV radiation), physiological (oxidative injury or metabolic) or psychological stimuli. This leads to proteotoxic stress, which is the intracellular accumulation of abnormally-folded proteins, as well as DNA damage. In response to stress stimuli, the body increases the expression of Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs), which plays a key role in cell protection. Thermostressine boosts levels of HSP70 without prior and after induced stress. Moreover and as shown in vitro, it improved cell viability in pre-treated keratinocytes exposed to UVB-radiation, heat/cold shock and dehydration. The tetrapeptide enhances cells’ tolerance of stressful stimuli, which translate into a more relaxed skin with a more vital appearance. Cellular stress response decreases with aging, as does the DNA repairing capacity, resulting in DNA damage accumulation at the molecular level. In the aging process, transition metals, such as copper and iron, play a role in oxidative stress as they are responsible for the formation of very reactive and harmful species which lead to strand breaks, DNA-based modifications and cross-linking. They are also involved in the formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs), which contribute to DNA lesions. dGlyage showed in vitro its ability to interact with Cu2+, preventing DNA damage caused by the ·OH generated by Fenton reaction. Furthermore, dGlyage reduced DNA glycation, enhancing its protection while diminishing the accumulation of AGEs. It acts at molecular level today to avoid macroscopic damage in future. Both active ingredients are part of Aimtec, Lipotec’s brand for peptides and organic molecules. Lipotec’s novel peptide, Delisens, addressed to skin disorders that characterize sensitive skin, also was on display. Delisens down-regulates proteinase-activated receptor 2 (PAR-2)-induced release of pro-inflammatory mediators, which is involved in the processing of pruritic or/ad inflammatory signals. In in vitro tests using a 4% Delsins formula, the release of inflammatory cytokines was reduced by more than 58%, according to Lipotec. More info: www.lipotec.com
