The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) has announced its slate of 2020 executive officers and area directors, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Together they represent the interests of more than 5,400 individual cosmetics and personal care industry members globally.

SCC’s new president is Mindy Goldstein, PhD (Mindy S. Goldstein, PhD Consulting). Her work experience includes VP-R&D and product development at Atlantic Coast Brands, executive director R&D at Estée Lauder, and director of biological sciences at Bath & Body Works. She was also director of biotechnology at Lipo Chemicals. Goldstein will work to promote a dynamic and relevant Society to provide each member with a professional and respectful environment for participation. She plans to work closely with the chapters  to help them remain relevant in an ever-changing environment. She said that sharing what works for one chapter may help another chapter improve its membership participation.

“It is an honor to represent the SCC as president next year,” said Goldstein. “I am humbled by the opportunity to lead the oldest and largest Society in our industry for a second time. Along with my fellow officers and the board, I will work toward achieving the strategic initiatives that support our members’ needs in their varying roles in the industry.”

The new vice president is Elizabeth (Liz) Streland of Croda, Inc. Streland said  service to the SCC gave her the experience to appreciate what needs to be done to secure a bright future for the SCC.
Streland’s goals for the SCC include growing and increasing visibility, broadening SCC’s focus on younger members and future leaders and increasing chapter support and chapter representation.

Michelle Hines, PhD of Mary Kay, Inc. will assume the role of vice president-elect. Her priorities include delivering strong member benefits that support the educational growth of cosmetic chemists as well as supporting initiatives which help members feel the value of their membership; upholding initiatives to strengthen the ratings of SCC’s scientific journal in combination with electronic delivery to members; and adopting strong stewardship of SCC’s financial future. Hines will continue to support initiatives that deliver training opportunities through webinars to members across the country and she seeks to grow mentoring opportunities.

SCC’s new secretary is Yulia Park, PhD of Amway. Through her experience as an Area II director, she identified opportunities to which she would focus her efforts. She wants to increase outreach to populations not yet familiar with SCC, particularly through social media channels, intensify the partnership between the national office and local chapters by building personal connections and stepping up two-way communication, and supporting/enabling the cross-sharing of information between chapters.

Mark Chandler of ACT Solutions Corp. will remain as treasurer.

The Society’s board of directors includes:

• Area I: Kimberly Burch (Elementis Specialties) and Patricia Singh (Air Liquide);
• Area II: Christine Daraska (Croda, Inc.) and Kayla Ivey (Gojo Industries, Inc.);
• Area III: Jacklin Hoffelt (SNF Holding Corp.) and Angie Inouye (Charkit Chemical Corp.) and
• Area IV: Michelle Linscott (Xytrus, Inc.) and Angela Eppler (Pfizer Consumer Healthcare).

“I look forward to working with these fine elected leaders and am confident they will continue to position SCC as the premier education, networking and scientific resource in the cosmetics and personal care industry,” said Erica L. O’Grady, the Society’s executive director/CEO. “Their collective industry expertise and commitment to delivering quality scientific information will positively impact members’ experiences and the industry as a whole,” she added.
