National Society Names 2021 Officers and Area Directors

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) announced the election results for the organization’s 2021 executive officers and area directors.

The new president is Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Streland (Croda, Inc.). Her goals for the SCC include: growing and increasing visibility; broadening the focus on younger members and future leaders; and increasing chapter support and chapter representation.

Michelle Hines, PhD (Mary Kay, Inc.) will move into her new role of vice president; she will be president in 2022. Her priorities include focusing on delivering strong member benefits that support the educational growth of cosmetic chemists as well as supporting initiatives which help members feel the value of their membership, uphold initiatives to strengthen the ratings of the scientific journal in combination with electronic delivery to SCC members and adopt strong stewardship of the society’s financial future.

Mark Chandler (ACT Solutions Corp.) is the vice president-elect; he will become president in 2023. Chandler wants to strengthen the bonds between the individual chapters and national as well as have chapters better connected to one another.

In addition, Yulia Park, PhD (Amway) continues her role as secretary and Karen Chun (Symrise) is the SCC’s new treasurer.

They are joined by Immediate Past President Mindy Goldstein PhD (Mindy S. Goldstein, PhD Consulting) and Peter Tsolis (Estée Lauder), both of whom serve in an ex-officio capacity, said SCC.


NYSCC To Host ‘Formulating For Inclusion’ Webinar on Feb. 18
The New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) will host “Formulating for Inclusion: Conscious Creations for Consumers of African Ancestry,” an online webinar on February 18 (from 11am-12pm EST).

This online event is designed to enrich the dialogue about formulating for the unique needs of consumers of African ancestry. Panelists will address the what, why and how of skin care, hair care and color cosmetic formulating, according to NYSCC.

The webinar speakers currently include Hannah Diop, founder of Sienna Naturals; Andrew Miller, hair care marketing manager BASF; and Meg Mullen, actives marketing manager, BASF.
