Enrollment Opens for SCC’s Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry Course

It is designed to bridge the gap between academic chemistry and cosmetic science.

The Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry course, instructed by Perry Romanowski, is a foundational part of the SCC’s Certificate in Skin Care Program.

Designed to bridge the gap between academic chemistry and real-world cosmetic science, this course helps learners build the knowledge needed to grow in the skin care industry, said event organizers.

About The SCC Certificate Program

Since the 1980s, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists has annually produced a slate of Continuing Education Program (CEP) courses targeted at cosmetics industry professionals interested in enhancing their knowledge of various aspects of cosmetic science. While the educational benefit of these standalone courses has been significant, we are now pleased to announce our latest model of cosmetic science education: the SCC Certificate Program.

Leveraging the SCC’s existing CEP course catalog, the SCC Certificate Program promises to offer deeper dives into select subject areas via curated course collections and carefully considered participant pathways through the material. The program utilizes a convenient on-demand course delivery model (online module recordings and quizzes), live instructor Q&A sessions, and optional in-person hands-on laboratory work, it says.

In 2024, the SCC launched its inaugural “Certificate in Skin Care,” and is currently preparing for year two of the program. We are also developing additional subject area tracks to be launched in the future.

Course Format

The courses are delivered in an online, on-demand format (approximately 6 hours of recorded instruction per course) with quizzes at the end of each module to assist with knowledge retention. There will typically be a live online instructor Q&A session 3-4 weeks after a course’s release date. Once a course has been released, participants have 24/7 access to all course recordings and quizzes throughout the remainder of their time in the program. Participants can also attend an optional hands-on lab session for the Cosmetic Formulations course.

Program Certificate

Upon finishing the required allotment of courses and testing, participants will apply what they have learned by submitting a reflection of their experience in the program, after which they will be awarded a certificate of completion.
