BASF Divests Optical Brightening Agents Business

Deal with Catexel includes a production site in Switzerland and staff.

BASF is selling its optical brightening agent business to Catexel, a developer, producer and distributor of specialty chemicals for detergents, cleaning agents, personal care and industrial applications. The transaction comprises the international business including the production facilities in Monthey, Switzerland and approximately 80 employees.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Closing is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

This strengthens our position as a reliable partner for our customers and drives our strategic direction forward,” said  Dr. Alexander Snell, president and CEO of Catexel.

Catexel has locations in Germany, the US, and the Netherlands with 220 employees worldwide.

BASF says it remains one of the leading suppliers and innovators of ingredients for the home care and industrial and institutional cleaning markets.
