Shin-Etsu Promotes Sunscreen Ingredients

Two new products for next-generation formulations.

As consumers become increasingly discerning about sunscreen performance, they are seeking products that deliver advanced UV protection with a refined, lightweight sensory experience. Many conventional sunscreens—both mineral and organic—can feel greasy or heavy and may leave an unwanted residue or white cast, particularly on deeper skin tones.

In response, the market has shifted toward next-generation formulations that provide high SPF and broad-spectrum protection while enhancing transparency, spreadability and overall aesthetic appeal.

To address these consumer demands, Shin-Etsu Silicones of America, Inc. (SESA: A U.S. subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. Ltd., Japan) recently introduced a new aqueous dispersion of ultrafine Titanium Dioxide with improved water resistance and a new highly effective Alkyl/Polyglycerin modified power dispersant.

These two ingredients, along with their SPD mineral dispersions and alkyl modified elastomer gels were showcased in a variety of high SPF mineral and organic sunscreens at The Florida Chapter of the Society of Cosmetics Chemists 2025 Sunscreen Symposium.

A pioneer in the field of silicones for personal care products, SESA provided world-wide cosmetic industry professionals with key insights into their latest sunscreen formulation advancements.

SESA’s 14,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art Cosmetics Application Laboratory is strategically located only 20 miles from Manhattan and Newark International Airport−which allows SESA to be closer to many of its strategic customers based in New York and New Jersey.
