The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) announced the winners of the prestigious awards being presented during the Society’s 79th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase. The SCC Annual Meeting is Dec. 16-17, 2025, at the Sheraton NY Times Square, New York, NY. To register, click here.

Here are the 2025 Honorees.

MAISON G. deNAVARRE MEDAL AWARD: JENNIFER M. MARSH PhD

“This year, the Society is presenting its highest honor to Jennifer Marsh PhD, in recognition of her industry expertise and contributions to advancing cosmetic science,” said SCC CEO Erica O’Grady, CAE, “We are pleased to formally recognize all that she has accomplished during her exceptional career and more than 18 years of membership in SCC.”

This award recognizes Jennifer’s activities in supporting the best interests of the cosmetic industry through her various technical contributions, which include more than 50 haircare and hair color patents, authoring 4 books, 6 poster presentations, 30+ speaking engagements, 72 technical publications, and has been the recipient of 14 prestigious industry awards.

Marsh is a general member of the Society, having received her PhD in inorganic chemistry from the University of Oxford (UK). She has served the Society as an associate technical editor of the Journal of Cosmetic Science (2022-25), a member of the Committee on Scientific Affairs (2011-13), and an IFSCC Congress Committee member (2016). She currently serves as vice president, Victor Mills Society, Procter & Gamble US, and is the leader of technology development for haircare.

SCC EDUCATION AWARD: JANE HOLLENBERG sponsored by Symrise

“We are pleased to honor Jane Hollenberg with the SCC Education Award”, said O’Grady. “This award recognizes Jane as an individual making outstanding contributions to the field of cosmetic science education and mentorship.”

Hollenberg has been an active member of the Society since 1977 and achieved the Technical Fellow designation in 2014. She twice served as the chair of the Education Advisory Committee (2002, 2021), IFSCC Congress Committee member (2016), Committee on Scientific Affairs member (2006-08, 2013-15) and as an instructor for several courses in SCC’s continuing education program (CEP) for more than 25 years. She is a three-time winner of the SCC’s Allan & Jeanette Black Award for the best paper presented at the Annual Meeting on color cosmetics, as well as the SCC Long Island Chapter “Spirit of Sam” Award for her achievements in the field of color cosmetics.

Hollenberg has authored two complete books as well as numerous chapters in other books pertaining to color cosmetics and pigments. She served as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati and Fairleigh Dickinson University, and is a member of the American Oil Chemists Society and the Personal Care Products Council.

FLORENCE WALL WOMEN IN COSMETIC CHEMISTRY AWARD: DOLORES T. KENNEY, JD, CBA sponsored by NYSCC

“The Society’s award honoring a woman’s scientific and leadership contributions in the cosmetics and personal care industry is being presented to Dolores T. Kenney, JD,” said Erica O’Grady, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of the Society.

“Dolores is a well-respected legal advocate, inspirational leader and mentor, and a distinguished contributor to the cosmetic science industry.”

Kenney is currently an Emeritus member of the SCC, joining in 1962. She achieved the Fellow designation in 2006, a category that recognizes members with a record of outstanding achievement, technical excellence, leadership, and dedication to SCC’s mission.

Kenney worked closely with Stanley Allured, developing a weekly abstract service (KOSMET) for the industry, as well as to publicize activities around the development of INCI nomenclature by the Cosmetics Toiletries & Fragrance Association (now known as PCPC). She prepared and defended numerous patent applications during her time as a patent attorney and authored numerous articles in trade periodicals like Perfumer & Flavorist and Cosmetics & Toiletries on the subjects of
trademarks, patents, and technology. She wrote a chapter on Intellectual Property Issues for Harry’s Cosmeticology, 8th Edition, as well as articles on the ever-important topic of proper laboratory notebook keeping. Throughout her career, many of her clients have been women and, for her dedicated support of other women in business, she was presented a Women’s Voices Award, “for contributing words of wisdom, insight, and encouragement to the women of metro Chicago.” Dolores has mentored and inspired scientists throughout her career and still attends events at the SCC Midwest Chapter. She is a registered patent attorney and a member of the Chicago-based firm, Olson & Cepuritis, Ltd.

MERIT AWARD: MICHELLE D. HINES PhD

“Dr. Michelle Hines has been an outstanding advocate, leader, and cheerleader for the SCC during the course of her nearly 20-year membership,” said Erica O’Grady, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of the Society. “On behalf of the National organization and the Southwest Chapter, we congratulate Michelle and thank her for her unwavering passion for and service to SCC.”

Hines is a recognized leader and visionary in the cosmetics industry, with credit for more than 150 patents. Her incredible energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the industry was recognized by Essence Magazine in 2020 as part of its “Black Women in Beauty: 15 Beauty Executives Who Are Changing the Industry.” She was also the driving force behind the development of the SCC’s Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, now in its fifth year.

From the moment she joined the SCC, she has tirelessly and selflessly served our Society. Hines’ service culminated as the 76th SCC National President in 2022. Her National board service includes Vice President, Vice President-Elect, and Secretary (2018-21), and Area III Director (2013-16). She has contributed to numerous National committees including the Audit and Finance Committee; Committee on Scientific Affairs; Diversity & Inclusion Insights Committee; and many others. Michelle has also served as SCC Southwest Chapter Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer numerous times throughout her membership.

Hines is also a member of the Women’s Dermatological Society, the Society of Investigative Dermatology, and Cosmetic Executive Women. Beginning her career with some of the best-known names in beauty, Hines is currently the Senior Director, R&D Formulation–Global Products & Sustainability for SC Johnson Lifestyle Brands.

ROBERT A. KRAMER LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD: MINDY S. GOLDSTEIN PhD

“Dr. Mindy Goldstein continues to be an outstanding advocate for SCC and an active volunteer, both locally and nationally,” said O’Grady. “For her contributions throughout 34+ years of membership, we are thrilled to present Mindy with this award with our thanks for her dedication and service to SCC.”

Goldstein has been an active member of the Society since 1991. She served twice on the National Board
of Director culminating in two terms as SCC National President (2002 & 2020). Goldstein was also president of the Long Island Chapter; a member of the Committee on Scientific Affairs and various other SCC Committees; served as associate editor of the Journal of Cosmetic Science; a recipient of the SCC Merit Award (2010); and recognized as a Technical Fellow of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists in 2002. She currently serves on the PCPC Nomenclature Committee where she Chairs the subcommittee on biotechnology, Goldstein is a well-respected subject matter expert, inspirational leader, mentor, and distinguished contributor to the field of cosmetic science, for which she was recognized as the recipient of the SCC’s Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award in 2022.

Goldstein received a BS with honors in Biochemistry, MS in Pathology, and PhD in Basic Medical Sciences from New York University. She holds three patents and has authored numerous texts and articles for various publications.
