They make up the fastest-growing makeup products in the US per Spate, while peel-off lip stains continue to prove their staying power.

With lip liners’ category-defining comeback, the pencil form no longer cuts makeup’s buttery new trend. Now, beauty lovers want their pencils packed with plumping agents to seal this attention-grabbing look with a kiss.
Right now, plumping lip liners makeup the moment’s fastest-growing lip makeup products in the US, per Spate’s Popularity Index. Peel-off lip stains are also proving their staying power among beauty enthusiasts (hello, Wonderskin x Chipotle’s lip stain back by popular demand this past summer!)
Spate analysts say lip products have been the star on the beauty stage, thanks to their accessible price point. These killer sticks make them an easy entry into a brand and their newfound role as status symbols. But in 2025, they’ve moved well beyond basic tint and hydration.
Kylie Jenner continues to be the epitome of this trend. Her brand’s lip plumping products remain wildly successful.
Per analysts, plumping lip liners have grown by more than 1,000% compared to last year, and across all platforms. On Search, TikTok and Instagram, the category is growing. TikTok leads the charge with 74% of the trend’s Popularity Share and 185.5K average weekly views. Similar to plumping glosses, these liners trace the Cupid’s bow to create a fuller look (and come with solid anti-aging properties to keep pouts smooth and defined.)
With Very High Paid Views share (69.5%) and TikTok Shop Views share (66.8%), per Spate, brands are leveraging the social media platform to create awareness and boost sales. Top brands in this space on search include Catrice, Kylie Cosmetics, Colourpop, Too Faced, Makeup Revolution and Thrive. However, there remains room for others to differentiate through price, ingredients, long-lasting formulas or packaging. Interestingly, analysts found the leaders shift depending on the platform. On TikTok, related branded hashtags include #halfmagicbeauty (31.1K average weekly views) and #nyxcosmetics (7.4K average weekly views).
Peel-off lip stains continue to exhibit their staying power in popularity. The trend has grown by +212.4% compared to last year across platforms and thrives particularly on TikTok, where it holds a 77.5% Popularity Share and receives 5 million average weekly views, per analysts. The dramatic reveal of peeling off the stain makes for highly satisfying content for social media platforms, analysts say. Consumers also enjoy the convenience. They can be applied once-daily in the morning, peeled off and lips are set for the day with little to no touchups necessary. This lack of self-consciousness and convenience makes these stains especially appealing to the no-makeup-makeup crowd or those with piqued curiosity about permanent makeup.
Searches focus on best peel-off lip stain, showing the market is still wide open without a dominant leader. Distribution matters too, analysts say. Demand for retailers like Target and Sephora though this trend has a TikTok Shop views share of 91.8% on the social media platform. On TikTok, related hashtags like #lipcombo (475.3K average weekly views) reveal how consumers integrate lip stains into their routines, while branded hashtags like #sacheubeauty (2.1 million average weekly views) highlight standout brands.
