Glossier CEO Kyle Leahy is leaving the company at the end of the year. She led Glossier for three years.

In a memo to employees, Leahy wrote:

“Over three years ago, Emily [Weiss] and I shared exciting news about Glossier’s next chapter, and I was honored to step into my role as CEO of the company she built. Today, we reached a new chapter defined by scale, profitability and brand strength,” Leahy wrote. “With that foundation in place, the board and I believe this is the right moment to bring in the next CEO to lead this new phase of growth.”

Leahy was appointed Glossier’s first chief commercial officer in 2021. She was named CEO in 2022, replacing company founder Emily Weiss. During her tenure, Glossier launched in Sephora. It signaled a new retail strategy for the one-time DTC company. Weiss also oversaw the formation of partnerships such as the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association), innovated IRL experiences like The Wonder of You and Balm Dot World, and launched imaginative campaigns that brought to life Glossier’s brand, products and values.

From DTC to Omnichannel

“We built a true multi-category product portfolio with innovations across fragrance, makeup, skincare, body and merch—solidifying our unique position as the lifestyle brand in beauty,” said Leahy. “We established an omnichannel model, driven by our re-platformed and scalable digital experience and elevated by our stores that showcase our leadership in experiential retail for the next generation.”

Leahy will remain on the Glossier board during the transition. Weiss remains executive chairwoman.

In a statement, Weiss said:

“I am so grateful for Kyle’s leadership and stewardship of Glossier over these past three-plus years. She deeply understands how unique and special this brand is, and was exactly the right person to serve as our CEO as we looked to evolve our business model for sustainability and profitability, and scale our brand.  Glossier was always built to be more than just one person — more than me, more than Kyle — and I am excited to partner with her to find our next leader.”

Glossier launched in 2014. Before that, Weiss founded Into the Gloss, a website for beauty product consumers.
