No red lights or cool downs for red light therapy and cool peel trends.
According to New York City-based trend tracker Spate, the services constitute the fastest-growing face services in the US.
Red light therapy has seen a +116.5% increase in interest compared to last year, with Google Search holding 73.1% of its popularity share and growing +99.2% year over year, per analysts. What’s more, TikTok engagement has surged by +184.8%, signaling a consumer shift toward this treatment. Why? Consumers are eager to learn about red light therapy benefits, which include reducing inflammation, improving blood circulation, enhancing tissue repair, providing pain relief and boosting skin rejuvenation.
Interest in at-home red light therapy is also rising, with red light devices from brands like Celluma trending in search. With demand growing, brands have an opportunity to enter the market by offering both professional-use devices and at-home treatments. As with any emerging trend, Spate says brands that effectively educate consumers will have a competitive edge. This entails explaining how red-light therapy works, showcasing before-and-after results and providing clear usage guidance. Beyond skincare, consumer interest is expanding into hair growth, making red light therapy for scalp health an emerging trend, analysts say.
Positioning products around benefits such as anti-aging and hair restoration, is a wise first step for driving consumer interest.
Cool peels have seen a +62.5% increase in interest compared to last year across platforms, with Google Search owning 85.6% of its popularity share and growing +39.5% year over year. Not to be confused with chemical peels, cool peels are a relatively new treatment that removes dead skin cells and stimulates new cell growth.
Unlike traditional peels, this CO2 laser treatment resurfaces the skin without excessive heat, making it a gentler alternative for skin renewal. Consumers are still educating themselves about the procedure, as reflected in the rising searches for before-and-after images and reviews. Many are seeking reassurance that the treatment is as safe as it is effective. This presents a major opportunity for salons and clinics to step in with educational content, helping to build trust and drive bookings.
Skincare brands can tap into the trend by offering post-treatment products— say, soothing masks and glow-boosting serums—specifically designed for use after a cool peel. These products could be sold directly to salons or through retailers, creating a seamless way for consumers to maintain their post-laser skincare routine at home.
