Job Description: AAP Staff, an industry leader in staffing solutions for the personal care manufacturing sector, is recruiting on behalf of a well-established OTC (over-the-counter) manufacturer located in Ottawa, IL. We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Operations / General Manager to lead daily plant operations and drive excellence in production, blending/compounding, sanitation, safety, and maintenance. 

This opportunity is within a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility specializing in personal care products, including health, beauty, and OTC items. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of implementing and sustaining operational best practices to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage plant operations for production, safety, warehouse, quality, and maintenance.
  • Lead staff to achieve the facility’s operational, financial, and strategic objectives.
  • Provide training and leadership to meet company goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee departmental managers to ensure timely and cost-effective manufacturing operations.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for operations.
  • Develop and manage operational plans and budgets.
  • Implement cost-effective controls for capital, labor, and operational expenditures.
  • Plan and execute facility capital projects and asset maintenance.
  • Minimize labor overtime, freight expenses, and repair costs.
  • Maintain plant equipment and facilities, including preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, quality specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead programs related to safety, cost reduction, and operational improvements

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position oversees all full-time and temporary staff within the department, including hiring and performance management.

Work Environment: This role operates in a large-scale manufacturing facility with a focus on personal care products. The environment in the plant is non-air-conditioned, with exposure to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and loud noise. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as directed. The office is fully air-conditioned, and air temp controlled.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally sit, climb, kneel, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus.

Expected Hours of Work: Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional schedule adjustments for a 24/7 production environment. Travel: Minimal.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial/mechanical engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of manufacturing management experience (Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or similar roles).
  • Experience in personal care product manufacturing and FDA cGMP-regulated environments.
  • Strong background in OSHA compliance and Lean Manufacturing practices.
  • Management of 500+ direct labor employees, including temporary personnel.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA preferred.
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • Operational Excellence experience.
  • Spanish language skills highly desirable.
