Hourglass, a cruelty-free luxury beauty brand, is celebrating its 20th year in business by paying homage to the place where the brand got its start – Barneys New York.
Designed and curated by former Barneys New York associates Simon Doonan and Julie Gilhart, the limited-time concept store celebrates a diverse group of fashion and beauty brands with exclusive items, Hourglass and Barneys New York collaborative products and programming featuring weekly events and influential guest appearances. The pop-up is underscored by the collaboration’s commitment to uplifting the fashion industry through Hourglass’s partnership with the CFDA, which provides scholarship funds to rising talent and designers.
“Hourglass got its start at Barneys 20 years ago, as our very first retailer, catapulting our brand into culture,” said Carisa Janes, founder and president of Hourglass. “It was the launch pad and champion for young designers, a place for discovery and creativity. As we celebrate 20 incredible years of business, we want to honor the spirit of Barneys and pay it forward for today’s designers through this unique pop-up experience and our partnership with the CFDA to support the talent of tomorrow.”
Timed to the start of New York Fashion Week from Sept. 5 to 8, the Barneys New York and Hourglass pop-up at 14 Prince Street will bring industry leaders, designers, creatives and customers together for discovery and connection. The pop-up will feature a calendar full of events, as well as guest DJs, customization opportunities, industry panels and other programming slated for the space. Hourglass makeup artists will also be onsite, offering the brand’s signature beauty services.
As Hourglass celebrates 20 successful years of leading luxury beauty innovation since the brand’s launch in 2004, Hourglass has launched a portfolio of products, including the award-winning and patent-pending Red 0 Carmine free lipstick, 30-time award-winning Ambient lighting franchise and the Unlocked collective, where a percentage of proceeds go back to support the Non-Human Rights Project.
Fashion industry veteran and the former fashion director of Barneys New York Julie Gilhart worked with Hourglass to hand-select designers that bring a unique point-of-view to the pop-up shopping experience. This diverse curation of designers represents the energy of New York City fashion – expressive, forward-thinking and boundary-breaking, per organizers.
Curated designer collections and drops from established and emerging designers will include 3.1 Phillip Lim, Agbobly, Altuzarra, anOnlyChild, Area, Aubero, Batsheva, Christopher John Rogers, Colleen Allen, Collina Strada, Diotima, Eckhaus Latta, Elena Velez, Ella Emhoff, Frame, Gigi Burris, Head of State, Hervé Léger, Hommegirls, Jonathan Cohen, Judith Leiber Couture, Khaite, KidSuper, Luar, Marc Jacobs, Maria McManus, Melitta Baumeister, Meruert Tolegen, Peter Do, Presley Oldham, Proenza Schouler, Rachel Comey, Rentrayage, Ruben Toledo, Sandy Liang, Sky High Farm Universe, Telfar, Theophilio, Thom Browne, Who Decides War, Willy Chavarria, Wiederhoeft, Zankov, Zero + Maria Cornejo and Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen.
At the center of the store is the Hourglass beauty bar, featuring two limited-edition, collaborative Barneys products – the Ambient Lighting Palette and an exclusive Unlocked Satin Crème Lipstick Duo – with special-edition packaging designed by Barneys Book illustrator, Na Kim.
In honor of Hourglass’s 20th anniversary, the brand is introducing a small batch, limited-edition fragrance named, XX – commemorating the last two decades of the brand. Hand numbered from 1 to 1,500, the scent is a light fragrance with notes of honeysuckle, orange blossom and sandalwood.
This limited-edition fragrance, as well as the collaborative Ambient Lighting Edit Palette and Unlocked Lipstick Duo, will be available exclusively at the pop-up and on HourglassCosmetics.com.
In addition to a full line-up of Hourglass’s favorite products, the Hourglass Beauty Bar also features up-and-coming brands including Reome, Perfumehead and AKT.
To further support future creatives, Hourglass is partnering with the CFDA to identify some of the brightest rising talents. The brand is supporting the CFDA’s scholarship program and integrating them into the Barneys New York and Hourglass pop-up.
